I run 2 classes for puppies, scent work classes and a class for reactive dogs. I also run a membership option whereby you can join for the year and come to as many ad hoc training sessions you want over the year (see below for more details)
Training your dog with positive reinforcement makes good behaviour much more likely. By using things our dogs enjoy such as treats, toys or praise you are teaching your dog that good things happen when they make a good choice. When your dog gets a reward, they will associate this with whatever they have just done, and will be more likely to do that same thing again next time.
Reward-based training is not only fun, but helps build a positive bond between you and your dog. We don't work for free so why should our dogs?
PUPPY FOUNDATION AND PUPPY PLUS CLASSES
The Puppy Foundation classes are for puppies under 6 months old and cover all the basics you need to know such as focus, sit and stay, social skills and recall as well as the do's and don'ts of puppy ownership so that you get a really well balanced puppy without inadvertently causing behavioural issues further down the line.
The Puppy Plus Classes are for puppies up to 9 months old who have done some previous basic training and want to do more training around recall, lead walking, social skills, prey drive, focus, calmness and play.
Dates
Puppy Foundation Classes
Wednesday 9th September at 5.30pm
or Saturday 19th September at 2pm
at Freystrop Village Hall
for 4 consecutive weeks
Puppy Plus Classes to follow on in October
Costs
The classes cost £60 for the 4 weeks and include a goody bag in week one and handouts and videos to support you throughout the training. There are packages available for classes and additional 1-2-1 sessions.
Puppy classes and an extra 1-2-1 session = £115 (5% discount)
Puppy classes and 2 extra 1-2-1 sessions = £160 (10% discount)
Reactive Rascals classes
These classes run over 5 weeks for those dogs who are over excited or fearful on lead and react to other dogs or people.
The first session is for owners only and we talk through how the sessions will run and how the process works. I want you to go away with an understanding of your dog and how the classes will run. You can then go away with the tools you need so that when your dog does come into class the following week, you have some tools ready, that your dog already knows, and you can start working with them straight away in the class environment.
I want you to come into week 2, knowing exactly where you are to go, and what to do with your dog, so that we avoid a quiet period, where the dogs may stare at each other and potentially start reacting.
The following 4 sessions will be with you and your dog. The sessions will run every week for 45 mins so that the dogs don't get too stressed and we have time to talk at the beginning and end of the session while the dogs are in your car. The final session may be a walk out in public if we feel the dogs can cope with it, or we can stick with the Dog Park.
COSTS
The cost for the classes is £100. If you have already done a class previously then you can miss the first week and the cost is only £80
There are limited places per session
DATES
Saturday 12th September at 11am at Freystrop Village Hall for around an hour.
The following 4 sessions will be with you and your dog at The Hay Meadow Field near Nolton starting on Saturday 19th September from 9.30am-10.30am. Depending on how the dogs are over the first 3 sessions, the last week may be a walk at another venue so we can practise the skills in real life situations.
Saturday 3rd October at 3.30pm at Freystrop Village Hall for around an hour.
The following 4 sessions will be with you and your dog at a venue near Princes Gate starting on Saturday 10th October from 4pm-5pm. Depending on how the dogs are over the first 3 sessions, the last week may be a walk at another venue so we can practise the skills in real life situations.
There will be approx. 6 dogs per class so we can space out well and help out any dogs that have anxiety or reactivity issues.
I will supply all the kit you need – all you need to bring is your dog and a RED Kong. It has to be red and all will be revealed at the classes!
We will look at indication and scent work, with a line up search on pipes and chairs and then move onto more advanced indication and scent work, with a line up search on bags, a novel environment and on vehicles
COSTS
The cost for the classes is £60.
DATES
Wednesday 16th September from 3.30-4.10pm at a venue near Princes Gate for 4 consecutive weeks
Help My Dog Membership
I offer a membership option where you join for an annual fee and then get access to bespoke group sessions. You pay £35 for a year's membership and this entitles you to bring one dog to the events. If there are 2 of you, and you want to bring 2 dogs it is £60 for family membership!
Once you are a member you can join the "Membership Only" sessions that I will run every month at a cost of £10. These sessions will be on weekdays and Saturdays and you decide on the WhatsApp group what you want to cover - or send me a message if you are not on WhatsApp. It could be recall, lead walking, walking on lead near other dogs, sitting quietly in a pub or coffee shop, trying scent work or even getting your dog used to walking in a busy town. This is a chance for you to ask me for what you want to cover and you can opt in or out of any session. The session times will vary but most months you will have a choice of at least 3 options to choose from.
The membership also gives you a loyalty card so that after 10 sessions you get the next one free! Just like a Costa Coffee card 😉
The dates for September are:
Wednesday 2nd September at 10am at the Racecourse in Haverfordwest - on lead walk
Saturday 12th September at 3pm at Morrisons Car Park - walk to the field, do some recall practise (if appropriate) and then walk back through town (if we have time)
Tuesday 22nd September at 5pm at the Hay Meadow field near Nolton for various training opportunities including lead walking, recall and scent work depending what you want to do.
Saturday 26th September at 11am - a walk at Canaston woods with coffee at Blackpool Mill if they are not too busy or 4pm for a walk and possibly pub afterwards!
